As PI of the Drinking Cultures project, Lucy Cogan was delighted to be invited to speak to the University of Aberdeen\u2019s Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies on the topic \u201cThe Drunken Irishman: Defining a Nation in Early-Nineteenth Century Literature\u201d on February 11, 2025. The institute is designed to promote research into the languages, histories and literatures of Ireland and Scotland, and their respective diasporas. Lucy\u2019s paper discussed the\u00a0cultural connection between drunkenness and Irish identity in literature (particularly the writings of Gerald Griffin) in the context of the political campaign for Catholic Emancipation.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
