The concepts and associated discourses used have a wide range of implications, including for who are cast as &#8216;problem drinkers&#8217; by society, \u00a0how alcohol policy and treatment are enacted, and how people make sense of their own alcohol use and problems. This talk will explore these issues and propose how stakeholders should seek to understand and frame &#8216;alcohol problems&#8217; to best address public health goals.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr James\u00a0Morris has over 20 years&#8217; experience working in the alcohol field in a variety of roles\u00a0including public health, alcohol commissioning and behaviour change training. He is an independent researcher and consultant, and a Visiting Scholar at London South Bank University. James has over 30 peer reviewed publications covering alcohol prevention, framing, stigma\u00a0and problem recognition\u00a0topics. He recently worked for the Department of Health and Social Care\u00a0authoring new clinical guidelines for alcohol treatment. He is host of The Alcohol \u2018Problem\u2019 Podcast, which aims to explore the nature of problem drinking through a range of academic and lived experience perspectives. James is a board member of Alcohol Focus Scotland and\u00a0the New Directions in the Study of Alcohol Group and has been an advisor for multiple alcohol research and policy projects, including for the Department of Health and World Health Organization. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"458\"
